Jason Nagy, 44, was arrested on Thursday, July 11, the Belmar Police Department said in a news release. Officers responded to a crash near the intersection of Second and Ocean avenues at around 9:16 a.m.

Investigators said Nagy was driving north in the southbound lane on Ocean Avenue when he crashed into another vehicle. Nagy's vehicle accelerated and broke through the boardwalk railing near the corner of Third and Ocean avenues.

Nagy traveled down the boardwalk for about a block before driving off it. The vehicle came to a stop near the corner of Second and Ocean avenues.

Nagy and the other driver were brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Nagy was put under arrest before going to the Neptune hospital, charged with driving while intoxicated and other offenses.

No injuries were reported from anyone on the boardwalk.
